Trying to find a J.O.B!

So I have been in Denver for about 3 months now and have had several jobs! Just want to remember the ridiculousness of finding a job in this crazy 2009 economy in a new city.

1. 7th grade reading tutor for 5 Hispanic boys at KIPP Sunshine Peak Academy... these boys were awesome and hard to deal with all at the same time... Gabriel, Horacio, Angel, Thomas and Miguel. Here are some pictures of the boys... they got "The Man" medal when they moved up a reading level. Learned I love working with kids and encouraging them to pursue their strengths and passions.

2. Cake Crumbs bakery taking care of customers and making professional cupcakes! Awesome! But waking up at 5 AM to prepare the shop... ugh! Learned I don't work well with those hours. www.cake-crumbs.com... Check out these crazy amazing cakes! Oh so good!

3. Program Assistant for Young Americans Center... awesome program where kids rule the world and a towne to learn about economic issues and financial responsibilities. Incredible experience!.... which led me to my new REAL job! WOO! yacenter.org

4. Development Assistant for Young Americans Center! My first real job and my first ever promotion! I finally have benefits and enough income to support myself! Almost I.N.D.E.P.E.N.D.E.N.T.... I got my own house, I got my own car, two jobs (literally), work hard, I'm a bad broad!:) So, I will be starting this upcoming Monday working with donors, fundraising efforts and special events for this non-profit! Exactly what I want to do! So pumped!

God is incredible! He has continually held me in his hands and taken care of me- better than I could ever imagine!

Two 14ers, 1 Week, True Coloradian! (but still loving and missing the GA!)

SO AWESOME!

Still learning my Colorado lingo so I will share... 14ers are mountains out here in the Rockies that are over 14,000 feet above sea level! There are about 54 in Colorado, so within a week I knocked out just two on the list!:)

On a Monday (at that point still unemployed), went with a new friend Erin to hike Democrat together. Within an hour and a half we reached the summit and had risen 3,000 feet in elevation. Get pumped to do one with me when you come out! The air is so thin up there and freezing cold that you are huffing and puffing every 2 steps! The hardest thing I have ever done in my life! Honestly! The view at the summit is spectacular! Worth every step of the way!

Funny though, when we reached the summit there was a 90 year old that reached the top before us and took our picture and a six year old with his dad on our heels. Rock solid people out here!

Then on Sunday total domination happened on Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs with Adam, Mike, Becca and Adam's boss Dave. We started at 5:20 AM and did not get off the mountain until 5:30 PM! Talk about a hike! It's 13.1 miles up and 13.1 miles down! I finally conquered the length of a marathon! It took us 4 hours to hike up the first 10 miles and then we hit tree line (end of the trees) for the last 3 miles that took us an hour each! Adam was drunk from lack of oxygen... and someone (the boss man) led us astray from the trail and had us climbing up gravel! What! Every step you fell half way back down! So, instead of taking switch backs to the top, literally climbed boulders! Crazy! And guess what... it was snowing at the summit! Beautiful ending!

Also, officially have my Colorado drivers license and Colorado plates for my car! AHHHH!

Check out these mountains! Come adventure with me! I miss you guys! Can't wait to see you!

Tour de Fat!

God has been ridiculously loving out here... I have been able to meet so many people, go on so many new adventures, and have amazing growing friendships. There are about 10- 15 of us that meet every Wednesday at my house for a Bible study! Ridiculously awesome! Have only been here for a month and have found people pumped to learn together!

Here are some pictures of a Denver adventure and tradition with some of these new friends... TOUR DE FAT!... a bike ride sponsored by the brewery, New Belgium out of Fort Collins, CO. Hundreds and hundreds of people dress in ridiculous costumes and take a bike tour around Denver. You know our group were the ones chasing down the guy that had massive speakers strapped to his bike so we could dance party it up the whole route!

Crazy happenings:
Amy's (my roommate's- the one in the dinosaur costume) birthday!
The random two banana's on a tandom were with us:)
Guy catapulting twinkies into the crowd- Adam for sure caught one
People biking on unicycles and those crazy bikes with the huge front tire and the tiny back tire... learning that biking is a huge way of life out here!
I made it into the finals of the "slowest biker" race and became known as the culprit that stole Salt and Pepper's costumes

Amigos in Denver!

Laura Paulik, awesome friend from good ol' Sigma Kappa going to school up in Fort Collins, CO, came to visit for the first weekend in Colorado! Went to parties, the movies, met local Denverians... had our first adventures out west together!

Adam Nubern, THE MAN!, finally made it out to Colorado the next week after lugging all of our stuff across the country! Adam is starting his first J.O.B. working as an accountant for Kiesling, an accounting firm in Colorado Springs.  His dad accompanied him and we went white water rafting on the Arkansas River! SO AWESOME! None of us fell out, but we had many close calls!
